FANOUT

A unison synth where every voice gets its own filter, and the filters fan out across the spectrum.

Factory presets

One filter per voice

Ordinary unison detunes a stack of oscillators and runs them all through one filter. Fanout gives each of up to sixteen voices its own filter, then spreads their cutoffs across the spectrum. Turn up Fan and a single chord turns into a ladder of bright and dark copies of itself.

Fanout is inspired by a video from Virtual Riot.

The cutoff distribution panel: eight voices with cutoffs from 1,200 to 4,800 Hz, spaced logarithmically.

Envelopes that fan too

Amplitude, cutoff, fan and pitch each have their own envelope, and every stage can fan: give the outer voices a slower attack, the inner ones a longer release, and the chord blooms outwards instead of starting all at once. Pick the order the timing runs in: inside out, outside in, upwards or downwards.

Wavetables, yours included

Seven built-in tables to start from, or drop a WAV wavetable onto the oscillator. Position Fan moves each voice to a different frame of the table, so the stack reads the wave from several places at once.

See what you hear

The output scope splits the signal into red, green and blue a moment apart, so wide unison smears into colour and a tight one stays white. The same split runs through the whole editor.
